I am totally baffled ! I have a 90 gallon mixed reef tank with something going on that is eluding me. As of 2 weeks ago all of my snails stopped feeding and fell to the substrate. There not moving nor do they hide in there shell they just hang out of it. Yet if I touch the snail itself they do move a bit, so I took them out and put them in my mantis tank, and sure enough there back to normal. Try them again in the 90 and within 2 hours there all at the bottom again.
My water parameters in the 90 are
Temp - 79.5
Salinity - 1.026
Ammonia - 0
Ph - 8.0
Alkalinity - 9.0
Nitrite - 0
Nitrate - 5
Phosphate - 0.1
Silicate - 0
Iodine - 0.4
Calcium - 400
Strontium - 5
Magnesium - 1450
Everything is within parameters, nothing new added in the last 2 months. All my crabs are fine and my urchin still feeding, coral banded shrimp, cleaner shrimp, peppermint shrimp all fine! Fish are fine corals also fine!
The tank has been running for almost 2 years with the snails doing there thing no problem until now. Anyone have any Ideas because I,m totally baffled!!!!

you have the param list of the mantis tank? If you find an inconsistency there, it might be the reason why.

The PH seems a BIT low, but not horrible. I don't really know. Temp difference? Don't know. Just might want to review mantis tank vs their normal tank. That might tell it all.

Tested the Mantis tank and the only difference was the nitrates are at 25 everything else was basically the same as the 90.
I changed 40 gallons of water in the 90 today, will see if that helps at all.

Any other Idea's out there? Anyone?

Okay so I read a bunch of articles, and used a voltage meter to test the tank, refuge, and the sump. No voltage there which doesn't surprise me as all three have ground probes to ground fault units that I check for working properly every month.

As a funny little side note my mantis has been hiding in his cave ever since he caught sight of the 2 turbo snails I put in from the 90. He's about 3 1/2" and the turbo's are around 3", mind you he does swim out to grab a margarita snail when he see's them(his favorite food).

Anyway back to the problem with the 90. Today when I fed the fish and corals I noticed that my nasarus snails(forgot about them in there) came out to eat and don't seem to be affected at all.

Still Baffled
