What advantages are there to a baffleless sump any ? I am putting together a 75 gal sump and see alot of people say they have a baffleless sump so what way should I go ? My sump is in my basement and my return pump is a external reef flow hammerhead 5800 per hour if that helps any

Was going to make external but don't know what would be better ? It's in the basement so I have all the room in the world .

I really wanted to but I'm open for suggestions . I have a bunch from my last tank . By the way thanks for the light works great :)

If the skimmer and return pump are external, I don't see any issue running the sump without baffles. The socks should control the bubbles.

I would try it this way. You can always add an over->under->over set of baffles later if bubbles are an issue.

Great - glad the light is working out for you.

Ahhh.. Simon did not mention having a fuge in the sump. If so, you will need to "bound" it by baffles of sorts.

Well I went with baffles to keep my cheat separate and a area to keep my mangrove trees . I bought 7 pieces of glass and 11 bulkheads from glass cages today and they only charged me 128 I diddent think that was really that bad at all

Lol 4 for my overflows 1 for surge tank 1 for a drain in my sump to ease water changes no more siphon . 1 for main pump reef glow external 2 for main tank closed loop 1 for a custom set up I built Ro help with water changes I have a 55 gal drum next to the sump and am going to plumb to the sump with a ball valve so I can drain the sump with one valve then open the other valve with pre mixed water from the drum with a heater in it as well so I don't put cold water in my tank and one extra lol. Does that sound lime a ok idea ?

I run a 40 gal breeders as my sump and its baffleless. Advantages I like are:

1: Extra water in the sump means if your ato is out of water you have some time before your return pump runs dry.
2: Plenty of room for things like skimmers, rocks, pumps etc...

My flight is departing, ill finish this later

 Well, I was going to ask when you're coming back... now I don't have to. :D

:) If I can ever get out of Atlanta now, I might make it home tonight.

And to finish this:

3: less micro bubbles n the return pump. Since the water does not build up velocity going over any weir, it is flowing much calmer to the return pump. Most bubbles float to the surface or hit the rocks .
