Bak Pak ,Remora or is a used seaclone good enough?

I'm looking to add a protien skimmer to my 58 gal tank. (85 lbs of live rock, 1 sail fin tang and a pseudo Chromis) The tank has been up for about 2 months now. I running a marine land emperor 400 right now for filtration and realize I need skimming.

From everything I have read it looks like the best hang on is either the Remora or the bak pak 2r. Anyone have any input on which one is best or why one or the other? Or do I use a used seaclone I was givin by a friend of mine?

Anyone have any input?

I would reccommend the Remora Pro, not the regular on that size tank, if you are going to go with a Remora and a Mag 5 or 7 pump. I use a Pro on my 56 and it works well. Often read that the Remora is better than the CPR, but opinions vary, but IMO the Remora Pro would be a decent choice for a hang on.

I run a Coralife 220 Super Skimmer on my 55 gal. In my opinion it is the best skimmer I have used so far. I have used all these skmmers, heres my ratings from #1 to Junk #1 Coralife 220 SuperSkimmer, #2 Aqua C Remora, #3 Red Sea Prizm,#4 Amiracle Quad 1, and JUNK Aquarium Systems Seaclone 150. again this is only my opinion.

Agreed with the above.

It's amazing to think that the same company that makes one of the worse skimmers on the market (The Sea Clone) also makes one of the best powerheads (the Maxijet)

It's also amazing to see how much these Coralife skimmers are taking off. It seems like every time I see a Remora asked about, a Coralife is recommended.

(For the record, I run a 65G coralife model and love the hell out of it - even though I'm considering adding a second skimmer to my 50G tank)

I had the Prizm when i first started out.. Worked O.K but the Coralife Super Skimmer is the way to go out of the options you mentioned.

I agree with the above, the remora is better than the bakpak, and definately better than the seaclone, but I reccomend the coralife. I run a 220 on my 90g. I had a remora on my 50g and it wasn't enough. Once I put the coralife 220 on the 50g I noticed a huge difference. When I upgraded to the 90g, the extra 40g capacity didn't even phase the skimmer.

What's the difference that you saw? Skimmate production or???

I dont have a remora but do have bakpaks and a seaclone that was given to me from a friend. THey both work, its just a question of how well. On the CPR's i replaced the rio 600 or maxijet 1200 with rio 800 RVT's. The maxi's sucked, i actually got better skimmate from the rio 600. Some say the upgrade to a maxi 1200 is the best option but mine did nothing with it on there. It wouldnt pull hardly ANY air in and skimmed 25% of the time. With the rio 800 on the CPR i HONESTLY get almost a full cup of GOOD skimmate everyday. I like the CPR too cuz if u take the bio media out u can put your heater in it if u dont have a sump.
I was told that the seaclone that was given to me was crap......................but it actually skims! Now, its not the best skimmer on the market, it aint no deltec or Euro Reef, but it is ok if your bio load isnt too big. Mine pulls out a cup of NASTY skimmate evry 2-3 days on a 90 gallon. Its powered by a Maxi1200 and i took off the plumbing that came with it and made my own that includes a ball valve before it hits thet skimmer, That way i can fine tune the amount of h20 going to the skimmer.
