well, i put my blue gig in qt because it was still not fully expanding after 6 months.

i came home yesterday to find a very dead blue gig and a qt that was 96 degrees :( the heater stuck on.... ugh... it was supposed to stay at 78 degrees.

i just bought an aqua logic temp controller for my qt. day late, but it should help with the next one.

anyone running a qt, i would highly advise getting a safety on the heater. i have apexes on my tanks, but didn't have one on my qt. such a bummer....

i have a couple healthy multi-colored and a purple gig. seriously bummed about my blue one though...

I use the digital Finex controller. It will give warning befor it fail. And it fail in the off position

I have an old ac jr that I use only for qt, treatment, or mixing saltwater. Best investment I have made. I NEVER rely on a heater to shut off on its own. Sorry you had to find out the hard way on such an awesome creature.

I have run through about 8 heaters over the past year.
I am amazed at the failure rate of some brands. I had invested at least $200 in heaters for my QT and HT.
I had about 7 Cobalt Neotherm heaters pretty much fail one after the other in a matter of months.

I used to use them for heating buckets of water and my HT's.

They start out great and keep temperature precisely, however, I have had 3 where over time they became unreliable and then wouldn't heat anymore.

Another one began leaking epoxy when I was treating one of my gigs, luckily I noticed during a daily WC will no ill effects to my gig, but that was a close call. I figured because I had just done a 100% WC and I could smell burnt epoxy. I tossed it in the garbage.

The other remaining heaters, had their temperature indicators malfunctioning, displaying a flashing red led.
Lastly, one of them leeched stray voltage, I figured it out while using it to heat saltwater in buckets.

I also had a titanium finnex with the digital controller die...in less than 6 months.

On each of my tanks I always use 2 heaters (aqueon pro and Eheim) controlled by apex. For my HT I have been using an Aqua Logic controller too...I am done taking chances.

You can be happy that it only cooked a new anemone in QT.

In 2003 I lost my ocellaris pair that I had since 1982, a pair of marine bettas I had for 10 years (I raised the male from an egg) and several other fish I had for a long time to a stupid 20 dollar heater that got stuck :headwalls:
That was the final straw that made me throw the towel.

worst part is that i have a spare apex that i am not using. i could've hooked it up on my qt. anyway...

i just bought a digital finex controller as well. once the controllers arrive, i will have a couple safety options....
