Baking/Bleaching/Killing Rock Question

I got some rock from a co-worker. It has been sitting in a bucket in his garage for about 2 months. I want to completely kill it. How long should I let it sit in the sun so I can make sure everything is completely killed?

If there were any marine organisms that survived being dry in a hot garage for two months they've earned the right to ravage your tank.

I like to soak dry rock in RO/DI. Not only does fresh water insure nothing lives, RO is also agressive at pulling elements like phosphate out of the rock. If the previous owner of the rock ran it in a high phosphate or nitrate environment then the rock could absorb it like a sponge.

I change the RO water out daily over the course of a week.
