baking soda; did I just crash my little tank??

Hi friends - today I decided to try a new cleaning product on the rug in the room that contains my 7G tank. It was starting to smell a little too much like puppy in there.....
So I dumped a bunch of this baking soda cleaner on the rug. I stupidly realized later that it put a lot of baking soda in the air - and thus possibly in this topless tank. So.... I just did a 25% WC. I'm wondering if I should change out another 25% immediately or "keep an eye" on things??
I seem to remember people using baking soda as an additive for some special purpose in their tanks - I'm also not sure how much could conceivably have ended up in the tank.
Feeling pretty nervous about this....

You have carbon running right Liz? Just keep an eye on it...not much else you can do at this point. I can't remember if you run a skimmer on that tank but keep an eye on it...it might start filling up quick.

you band kids know how to party:celeb2:. i wouldn't stress too much. some people use baking soda to raise alk. i 'd watch your alk,but honestly, it would take a lot to boost alk to dangerous levels

Baking soda is bi carbonate. It adds alkalinity. I use the food grade( basic arm and hammer ) for that. I doubt any from the air would be significant . I'd worry about airborne bactericides ,etc that might be in cleaning products if they got in the tank though.

I add baking soda to my system by the heaping spoon or heaping cup full... Keep in mind, this will raise ALK very rapidly...

Hey Steve . How are you? Bumpedinto our Dadat the frag swap . Stay safe.

If you bake it first(350 degrees for about an hour) it's twice as potent. The baking turns bicarbonat(baking soda) to carbonate (soda ash). Each carbonate molecule(CO3) has room for two H protons before becoming carbonic acid H2CO3. So it has 2 units of acid neutralizing power ,ie ,alkalinity. Bicarbonate( HCO3) has room for only one H proton so it only adds one unit of alkalinity . Carbonate(baked baking soda) may spike ph if too much is added at once
