ok silly question but rather be safe then sorry. im currently trying randys dow flake and mag flake solution. on the alkalinity side he says to heat baking soda in oven for 300F for hr on a tray. wondering could i place the soda in a foil on top of tray then heat in oven for easier access?

I'm not sure I understand the placement of the foil, but you do not want to keep it covered. You want CO2 and water to escape. Also, I'd try heating to 400 or for more than 1 h. Some folks who use a thick layer of baking soda find it does not heat all the way through adequately. :)

The foil will be laying flat against the tray with the soda on top of foil. I was just wondering if using foil was safe to use underneath the baking soda when heated

I've done that. When you're done, you can kind of fold the foil over to make like a little funnel to help pouring the powder into your container.
