i'm going to bali sometime in the next 2 years and was wondering if anyone here has gone also if theres any way to bring home fish

Yes, Bali is awesome.... (Bali is like the Cancun of SE Asia, so keep that in mind.....expensive, and full of loud, annoying tourists, especially in the major towns)

Re: FISH......if you're thinking about doing this via your checked-in luggage, i'll just go ahead and say this: don't.

but since you have 2 years before this trip, you can prolly save up a few thousand dollars.....head to a Bali fish exporter, pay him a pile of money, hand-pick a shipment and have it sent to your local fish shop.

I've brought fish and inverts home with me from the Caribbean in checked luggage. I caught them snorkeling or scuba diving and brought what I needed with me to keep them alive and well in my room for a few days. Before 9/11 I put fish I'd collected in a carry on bag. Since 9/11 I've only brought fish home a couple of times, in checked luggage, most recently about a year and a half ago when I brought a lovely Spotted Drum home in box bags in a cooler, strapped closed, and placed inside a soft nylon square luggage bag. Homeland security/DEA checked the cooler very carefully by drilling several holes in it, but they didn't bother the fish. Pics of the cooler and the fish, which is now magnificently fully grown, are on my Personal Profile. I doubt I'd try this if a long flight from Asia were involved. Even from the Caribbean it's difficult these days. Of course, I had the Fish and Wildlife declaration forms attached to the outside of the cooler. The complexity of connections, long flights, and legal issues makes bringing fish and inverts home from Asia a daunting prospect.

second bali....noosa penida in particular, manta point and crystal bay. crystal bay was how i imagined scuba would be before i had done it, all the colours, warm jade clear water, steep volcanic banks and drop offs

tulumben as well, there's a nice big wreck (the uss liberty) about 30m off the coast, and a really really cool drop off at a beach not to far from the wreck. something about drop offs makes me feel like i'm free flying a cliff... :) awesome..

if you going during august (our winter) you'll get a chance to see a mola mola (sunfish) too

ok, you're right on top of the wreck and wall near tulumben, good location away from all the tourists... :)
