do you guys think a pair of bangaai cardinal would be good in a reef tank? im thinking about getting a 12 gal

These are great fish, and would probably do great in a 12......provided you have a true male/female pair! If you dont, one will end up dead. This is why you probably wouldn't want to buy them mail order, unless they are listed as a breeding pair. Go to a LFS that you trust, and look for a true pair.

Thers lots, so to list would be impossible. Just something peaceful and non-aggressive. Well I guess peaceful and non-aggressive mean the same thing.

Not necessarily. I've kept many male-male and female-female pairs together with no difficulty. You're more likely to run into trouble if you have two males and a female or vice-versa, because then there's a reason for the same sex banggai to kill each other.

As for what else can be kept, basically any fish that you can keep in a 12g can be kept with banggai (except a frogfish, or something of that nature).

Make sure you get TR banggai. There are no good reasons to get WC, and a lot of good reasons not to.

Are there even wc bangaiis available anymore? Im pretty sure they have been overcollected, so they dont do that anymore.

regarding same sex pairing (THIS IS NOT A CURRENT EVENT DISCUSSION!!!), I do not necessarily agree. I think perhaps you are right with a female-female group, but with male-male group, both want to be the male type, and complete to dsiplay dominance. I think its hard wired that way. I had two bangaii (I assume were males) fight to the death in a 120. Both actually died from this action (1 about 10 days the other from a torn jaw). I understand your point and agree for the most part, but I think some fish think black and white. Especially in a 12g.

But youve had it work for you, so maybe my luck is bad.

No, they're still very much collected. There are also some populations that have been transplanted to other islands, and so are wild-caught from places besides Banggai.
