Bangai cardinal pairing

I need help getting a pair of Bangai cardinal. How do I find out if it's a male or female. I don't want to spend the extra money on getting a pair already. How many should I get to try to get one or maybe 2 pairs. I only have enough room for 4 2 in my 55 gallon and 2 in my 20 gallon. My idea is to but around 4 in the 20 then once a pair forms I put the other 2 in the 55.

The Vent method is a way to sex them, but this is "easy" if you are lloking at adults. Juveniles are almost impossible to sex.

You need to buy a group of 10 or so and you will see a pair or two form, then rehome the rest. 4 would be pushing it, you might be lucky and get a pair and extremely lucky to get two pairs.

The vent method is the way to go. The only issue is finding them fat enough at a store to use the vent method.

I purchased 3 at a local store with the plan on fattening them up at home and exchanging them if I didn't have a pair. I got lucky and ended up with 2 males and a female. 2 paired up against the 3rd who was removed. Good luck!
