what i found the fry would eat was prawn eggs. Someone mentioned this above, but back in 2000 Guy C sent me a package of prawn eggs, these were tiny tiny eggs, but its the only non living foods my "banggers" (my term for banggai fry) would strike at and eat w/ gusto. I didn't have luck w/ cyclopeeze or even froze baby brine.
I read recently a few folks having success w/ a number of nonliving foods-- so I guess-- try em all.

Your photo of the bangger eating the sally frozen brine is interesting. I'd be concerned that the adult frozen brine is too big and may have the potential to choke a few fish, esp in light of your photo, the fry clearly has its mouth still open

Frank--Thanks! My guess with the Sally's is that they were striking at the binder in the food and not at the brine shrimp themselves, but I was just tossing the kitchen sink at them to see what they might try. I haven't used the larger brine shrimp since.

I think I might have caught that fry _just_ post-strike, though. Here's the very next frame, taken 3 seconds later (time stamps are good things):

The good thing is that the copepods in the tank seem to be responding to the increased feedings and I've seen a bunch in the WC. The bad thing is that the Aiptasia seem to be responding to the increased feedings, too.

Still easy to count at least eleven-twelve.

Wow! Looking at that photo against the photos from yesterday. They are growing so fast! Look at the tails, with the opaque gray section starting to come in and how much stockier they are. And the body cavity seems so much more full.

Let's see, 19 days post-papa? I've counted 9 a couple of days in a row recently, so that's the number I'm going with right now.

19 + 7 = 26 days post-papa for batch I.

I went to feed the kids at about 1:00pm and noticed a few new faces, about half the size of Batch I. It looks like papa's beginning to release Batch II. Any clue if the older juveniles pose a threat to the new batch?

I ate some bad food today and am really hurting, so I doubt I'll have many photos. Then again, it might take my mind off my stomach....

Still only one smaller one. Hmm. It's a very marked size difference. It continues to hang around with a group of sibs that are quite a bit larger. Like most younger sibs, it hangs around the fringes trying to imitate its elders and occasionally the older sibs get mad and try to chase it away. With no luck, of course.

Hi! Sorry I haven't updated in a while. Things seem to be moving along pretty well with the babies. The babies have now adopted a water column lifestyle--no more hiding in the filters. They still tend to stay away from their big, scary parents but have no trouble at all tormenting the clownfish. The clowns are actually fairly gentle with nudging the cardinals away from their nest but the cardinals pester the clowns endlessly. So, photos. These aren't as crisp as the others, but the fish are staying deeper in the water now and are much quicker, especially with BBS in the water. As you can see, they are starting to look really large in comparison to the BBS.

The largest of them have started to act interested in very small pieces of very small mysis, but I think they are still a little too small. I don't think I've had any luck with crushed frozen formula 1 yet.

First I have seen these without the long spine urchin, they seem to be doing well.

Thanks! They were pretty benthic up until a week or so ago, but didn't seemed to be bothered by not finding an urchin to shelter in. But, they all found someplace to shelter (caulerpa, the shallow water atop the algae filter, PVC pipe). Honestly, I have an artificial urchin somewhere but I'm in a rent house right now and never found it. Now they are full-time in the water column.

I just started giving them shaved shrimp yesterday (as per Frank's suggestion) and they seemed to get a big growth spurt overnight. I think they needed some bigger prey but I didn't have anything that would bridge the gap between BBS and mysis. I guess I could have shaved the mysis, but didn't think about it.

You betcha, megaspoot, but please remember that I didn't use it to catch the cardinalfish larvae.

Mine are packing again. I currently have 5 in the fuge, they are feeding on cyclopeeze, enriched with reef complete and vita chem. Using garlic gaurd occasionally as a stimulant. Not sure where I wanna go with all these.

Wow that is really cool. Any one know anything about PJ's breeding. I'm guessing is about the same but not 100% sure. It looks likemy male has a mouth full of fry. Not released yet but the. Did you put the fry caughter right into the tank or is that in your sump?
