Banggai Cardinal?

What are the chances of me successfully adding a Banggai cardinal to my 75 gal. tank? I have 1-med yellow tang, 1-med royal gramma,1- false percula, 1- small talbot's and yellow tail damsels,1- med six line wrass. My tank is nice and peaceful and I'd like to keep it that way but I really want just one more fish.

i just put three bandai's in with my yellow tang, clowns, and six-line into my 125 without any problems.....

well except one of them was found almost dying.... but i can't blame that on any of the other fish. he is now in the refugium, in critical condition.

Those Cardinals are very peacefull and more nocturnal, only get 1 or 2, with 3 one is the odd person out and the 2 will banish it, been there done it.

I have 1 thats grown very large in my tank. Great fish, that doesn't bother anything. I think it will make you a good choice.

have had one in my 75 with almost same fish you listed. no problems. had 2 lost 1 after 2nd day. dosen`t take any crap from damsels or maroon clown. but does not start anything either

Most likely. For Bangaii's, the alpha male will NOT tolerate other males.

So to clarify, even 2 can be a bad number for bangaii's if they're both male.

I think you will have no problems adding a Bangii to your system.

You may want to consider that bangaii cardinals, endemic to a small region in Indonesia, are severely over-harvested. There are captive bred ones out there but they cost more.

This has been my experience also. I bought 3; of those, one was harassed to death within a week and the other died of an eye infection that I'm sure was the result of aggression. The remaining one now just hangs around his spot, not doing much of anything until feeding time.

They're very beautiful, reef-safe fish but at this point are on my Never Again list. Maybe if was easier to identify genders... unfortunately, one of the best ways (dorsal banner height) is unreliable since IME the banners quickly end up shredded from constant fighting.

Wild caught bangaii's also have a pretty bad survival rate, both in my experience and from what I've heard. Tank bred and raised bangaii's are not hard to find.
