Banggai Cardinalfish Breeding Log

@ oceanarus, do you know how long I should keep them on BBS ? What would be their next food I should feed them ?

Andy some will grow faster than others. So it depends on the individuals. I grow up brine shrimp for mine in a vat outside. I have lots of fish here so it is worth it for me to do. But the sooner you can get them on to mysis the better. But as far as brine goes I put different sizes in based on the fish......hope this helps. There are lots of other foods that you can use like Cyclope eeze, pods, etc. But mine are slow to want flake. So when you try to get them on flake make sure they are all eating it.

Great pictures Andy how are they doing update?

Same. All five are still alive. These are way ... way easier the clownfish LOL. Still feeding them BBS and not much else. They are 2 weeks old today. :D

congratulations that's really cool; I just looked back over the pictures; the makeshift urchin is aquarium putty & zip ties right?

Update:
All five banggai fry are doing well. They are 3 weeks old today. :)

Update:
So about two weeks ago the Banggai's spawn again. I tried to put some weight on the male before his 21 day hunger strike, by feeding twice daily. Then about a week ago the male started fighting with one of the other Banggai. The new male then paired up with the dominant female. The old male is now hiding in the back of the tank with a mouth full of eggs/fry.

More photos tonight !

A question about feeding otohime A. Recently, I've started to offer B1 out of the otohime sample pack from Reed. I offer it as the first feed in the a.m. to about a dozen Banggais (age: 18 days). What strategy did you use to get them to take oto? Is my approach too soon, too big, etc.? Also when you say with Amy "get them on mysis," are we talking about live mysis or frozen? Live seems like a whole lotta work.

TIA

Mike I only use frozen mysis. Personally I don't have time for live mysis. But I'm sure it would be better for them.

I used oto A for the first three weeks. Now I'm using oto B1. I think you'll be fine. They have large mouths. I'm even thinking to go with oto B2 here soon at five weeks.

OK this video clip is a few weeks old. I just uploaded it, so I hope you enjoy.

Thanks for the tips! And that video is sweet. I take it they are swimming in a sea of Otohime? Can't tell exactly, but sweet nonetheless.
