My Cardinalfish have taken up resident in my Sebea nem. Is this pretty normal behavior for them? I have only had them for a couple weeks now. They have alway hung out arround the nem but for the last couple days, the larger one will snuggle down in it tenicales at times. Just wondering if anyone else experences this behaivor?

Taggin along for the answer

I too have a Banggai that has had a few visits to my green touch coral. I had just figured that he smelled something good in there and went for a visit.

I believe I read in Scott Michael's Basslets, Dottybacks, and Hawkfishes book that the Banggai Cardinalfish associate with long-spine urchins and a few different types of anenomes in the wild. In one anemone you might find a pair of clownfish and a group of Banggai's.

Yes, what Scott wrote is correct. They will emulate that behavior in your aquarium.

so bangaii cardinals are symbiotic like clowns are? i thought it was only clowns that are symbiotic with anemones.

They're not actually symbiotic, but they do use them for protection. Unlike clownfishes, Banggais can live independently of anemones in the wild, however.
