Bansai growth question

I picked up a frag of Bansai a couple weeks ago, and don't see any growth yet. It looks great, but no growth. Usually I get noticable growth from all other frags within 2 weeks.

Are these known to be a slower grower ?

From my experience and from what others have said in the past, the true, original GARF bonsai is a very slow grower. However, there are a lot of solid puple corals with green polyps floating around now that carry the GARF bonsai name that seem to grown much faster.

It seems to take a while getting established, then it starts to encrust more than grow upward. Then there's a LOT of beginnings of branches, then it seems like the next thing you know you have a good size colony.

Just give it time. If it browns on you at the beginning, that's normal too. It will color back up over time.

How is it mounted? I have a Bonsai, not GARF, that I mounted sideways and it wants to base over the entire plug before branching, but as you can see from the pic it's almost ready.

Then there are tri colors that grow quicker.

Umm... the GARF Bonsi that I had grew on my 1" by 1" dick in about a month. They really dont start to have good growth till they have a nice strong base!

Why and more importantly how are you able to keep it in the water 24/7. Only 1" x 1"?

Scott, I apologize for being part of the off topic banter but I couldn't resist. To answer your question mine has been an intermediate grower. As others have stated, very slow until it has encrusted a good base.

Hah.. nice ;)

Anyways, It's a very small piece maybe 3/4'' x 1/2'' layed flat so it would make a nice base first. But I see no noticable growth yet.

Also, like 'sneeyatch' said - It did brown up alot. Polyps are still bright green.

I found a nice 3'' of bonsai at the lfs today that I couldn't resist for the price. I love this coral, but this is my first time with it. If you said the browning at the beginning is normal, then I'll calm my nerves :)

More photos would be great guys! Thanks.
