Bay Area Reefers Northern California Regional Frag Swap - Propagate, share, diversify!

The BAR regional frag swap is intended to promote the propagation, sharing and ‘backing up’ of corals within the reefing community. In this event, BAR values a spirit of generosity in support of the hobby and all its participants.
This swap is open to everyone. Meet and hang out with your fellow hobbyists. Share and enjoy the diversity of corals grown by your fellow reefers.

How to participate in the swap in an easy to read format:
• Entry Fee: $10 prepay (before July 29), $15 late pay (after July 29), and $20 the day of the swap. Entry fee includes at least lunch and coral dip, and the prepayment gives us a head count for the food provider.
• Extra food can be purchased directly from the food provider for guests and very hungry participants.
• Coral: 3 or more strains
• If you have no coral to donate to the swap there is an additional $20 participation fee
• All fees payable by paypal to paypal@bareefers.org.
For an updated list of people who are registered for the swap, please click here and scroll to the bottom of the page

It's come one come all, if you PM me a link to your club forum, I can post the invite there.

Sweet! I've never been to a frag swap before. What does 3 strains mean for corals? Can I bring all Sps and choose all Sps or does it not work like that?

By strains we mean differnt varieties, ex. blue milli, green milli are two different strains. That request is so we don't wind up picking Kenya Tree all day long;)

So if you bring 3 frags your taking home 3 frags right? What if you bring more than just 3, Do you get to pick as many as you take? Or does it not work like that? Sounds fun!I'll be traveling 3 hours to get there so I want to make sure I no what to expect. Thanks

Generally the first few rounds will be single pick, and as time rolls on we do a double pick until the corals run out, then it's a free for all. "Take the brown Palys, Kenya tree, GSP, get it outta here" It will be worth the trip for sure, especially if you carpool with some of your local reefing friends, it's an adventure!

I would say that for certain you will leave with AT LEAST 3 different coral frags. However, many people bring more than three frags, if anything to clean up the tank, but as a second advantage as long as it's not the "brown stuff" Jeremy mentioned, there's a good chance someone will take your frags rather than a frag that you actually want :D

3 different strains is simply the requirement to get in without paying the $20 "no coral fee" (there still is an entrance fee of $10 if you prepay by July 29, see original post). You're more than welcome to bring more.

I've had swaps where I brought back 12 different coral frags, however in later swaps not so many because 1) I get more picky, 2) I don't have room for this many so I give back more than I take.

Registration said to send money to Paypal@.... Do I need to give my RC login ID or they will send me a confirmation number or something?

I'm not a member of BAR yet. I'm new.

Hi Daniel, RC login is good, as well as your full name. We will have a registration sheet at the door with names.

This swap is open to anyone, BAR membership does have quite a few benefits though.

At this point we are only taking paypal as we have no way of collecting the cash from people. Cash payments will be accepted only the day of.

I'm going to have to miss this frag Swap. Darn. Oh well I'll be diving in Hawaii so I guess I can't have my cake and eat it too. I know it will be a hit as it always is.

Just a heads up for those of you traveling from outside the immediate area, we plan on having plenty of help during the check in period to expedite things, and to have a 1:00 hard start. If you arrive after 12:30 you will automatically be placed in the last picking group.

I know it sounds harsh, but it's not fair for those people that made the effort to show up on time. Also, we're making a concerted effort to keep timing smooth, and those that show late cut into the BODs time, and those are the people running the event, which makes for a late start.

We're all looking forward to a great swap, and a fun gathering of friends!
