I think a DSB looks more natural. I love the look of a clean white sand on the bottom. BB looks totally unnatural, with or without good looking corals.
BB with remote sand bed in the sump (what I have). Sand in the display will probably never happen for me again (never say never but unlikely). I can direct flow anywhere I want including the bottom, I can go buck wild with the magfloat or scraper with NO danger of scratching up the glass, I can do any maintenence or basically anything I want without causing a disturbance and removing detritus is as easy as finding the one small spot in the back of the tank it accumulates and siphoning it out. the RDSB is out of sight, out of mind and out my way. If I ever put sand in the display it will be to keep certain wrasse I like but my tank is too small for all of them so thats a non issue.
I was going to set up as a BB but at last minute I decided to go with a DSB. Looking back on the last 18 months I wish I had gone BB. With a mainly SPS system I dont really see the advantages of having a sand bed. But there are certainly disadvantages of having sand.
