Bare bottoms

Am i the only person who thinks that bb don't look nice. No offence to anybody with one but to me the tank looks way to empty without any sand in it.

Many people agree with you. :) I like the look of sand also. I like sand and BB. Ive got a BB tank and a tank is a very small sandbed (1/4'') and like both.

If you read many of the BB vs sandbed thread you will find that quite a few people don't find it to be an attractive choice.

Then again some BB people don't find DSB or any SB attractive. It's all individual taste. :)

It is your personal preference. Having been in the hobby for a quite a few years, I've seen all kinds of substrate ideas appear, fade, and appear again.

I like BB because it is clean, easy to care for IF you know how, and it perfect for maintaining a nutrient-poor environment for an SPS dominant tank.

To each his/her own. :)

I like the bare bottom tanks that I have seen with the cutting board / white platic bottoms. I think if I ever deside to set up a big tank, it will be bare bottom like that.

I liked the look of my sandbed in my tanks before I went BB but the star polyps and zoa's now growing on the glass bottom, I like better. ;)

I like the look of sand...but I like the control without the maintenance headaches that BB gives me better. And I don't like sand dunes on my rock.

I agree BB tanks don't look natural. Tanks w/starboard-bb look better but its still not sand. I love the look but I run BB for my tank inhabitants.

I provide them with the cleanest, lowest nutrient environment possible and for my situation BB works best for me.

Each method is good for different applications. Just do your homework and research and then decide what is right for what you want to do.

Faux sand bed is what i did. It looks much better than BB or starboard IMO.

Got any pics or other good info on how to do this so it looks good?

Aubee,
Check out my gallery. There's some pics in there of the tank with the Faux Bottom after 6 months and one on the second page right after it cured.
There's a great thread on Faux sand bottoms somewhere on RC but as usual the search function is not working. Anyone have the Link?

Jay

I have BB, I like BB with Starboard. I still think clean fine-grade sand looks the best (must be spotless though ;)).
