Bariene Tang with small gash on left upper gill

I have been having the worst luck with fish right now especially with QT any of my new additions. Just doesnt seem to go well.

Bariene tang is in a 55 gallon long qt tank with an achilles tang. Both have not started any treatment yet in order to have them eat and acclimate. Fish have been eating for the last couple days with no issues.

Sine yesterday the bariene tang has been breathing very labored. Noticed that that it has like a 1cm white line on its left upper gill.

I have pictures and the glass is dirty it makes it look like the tang has ich but its completely clean except for the white dash.

I dont see any aggression at all between the two tangs.

I dont believe it is ich or marine.

Anyone have an idea what i can do.
Should i dip it in freshwater, formulin, and etc.
Should i start it on prazi for potential parasite.

Sad that most likely it wont make it.

ive had my bariene tang for a while now and sometimes if walk by the tank in a red shirt he gets scared and runs into the rocks.. anyways sometimes when they get scared and swim fast by rocks they can scrape themselvs ive had my tang do it a bunch of times, i cant really get a good look at your pic but from my experience it looks like a scrape and should heal up quick, just make sure you feed it a lot, and feed a lot of algae and veggie based stuff.

I doubt any problems are associated with your QT. This should be the safest and least stressful place fish should ever experience. I see no reason to dip. Dips are strictly for external parasites and don't even touch the most common, ich. I do think all fish should be wormed in the QT with Prazi-Pro or API General Cure. Both are wormers and very easy & safe. The GC adds an antibiotic, maybe a good idea because of the tangs wound, or whatever.

Can't tell much from the pic. Two tangs in a 55 QT isn't a great idea, IMO. Your description sounds like the Achilles may have used his built-in switchblade. Achilles (and many/most) tangs will use their peduncle spine when needed.

Assuming it isn't a battle wound: What are you using to control ammonia in your QT? What is current ammonia level? Is the Achilles having any problems? Are there plenty of shelter spots for the fish? Some more history of the problems with the QT would also help.

I do not see a problem with the QT tank size for the apparent size of the tang in the picture. How large is the other tang in the tank? It's difficult to tell what the white spot is, however I would insure your QT water quality is high.

If you suspect any aggression or rather prevent any future fights, you should place a divider in the tank to separate the two fish. The egg-crate from the home improvement stores works well for this purpose.

Do not dip the fish in the described condition (heavy breathing and lethargy). It's likely to make things worse for the fish.
