some pendants come with a version of these, mine unfortunately does not... and i dont need my whole apartment lit up by the halide

You can use a material called Blackwrap to fashion something yourself. This stuff is designed specifically for masking theatrical lighting so it can handle the heat no problem. It is basically very thick aluminum foil that is coated with a matte black finish.
