Barracuda?

It's a true Freshwater fish in the Tetra (Characin) family. The same family as Neon Tetra's and Piranah. They are a highly predatory fish, just like the Barracuda that they superficially resemble. You'd need a freshwater tank for them, but you wouldn't have to worry about them growing to 6' :D

The one i saw was a SW fella and it was obviously a baby. since it was only 6inchs long although someone has since bought it

We used to fish for Barracuda back home in Trinidad (Caribbean). We never caught any 6 foot Barracudas but we used to see them on the beach for sale. They would not only be much, much longer than my father and I but also about a foot wide!!! They get enormous. I really dont think many people could possibly have a home aquarium for one.

They do taste amazing smoked though! Yum!

As far as that link to the Red Tail Barracuda - They are freshwater fish but can be acclimated to saltwater. I had one many years ago before I went saltwater, and it's probably one of my favorite fish i've ever owned. They don't get very big and they are totally bad assed - really awesome fish. Anyway, my buddy who worked at a local fish store and was a hardcore reefer. He loved mine and ended up buying one and slowly and successfully acclimated him to saltwater and introduced him to his aggressive tank. He told me he dripped saltwater and slowly raised the salinity until he was swimming in a full fledged saltwater tank. I lost touch with him shortly after so I can only be certain that I saw him in a saltwater tank ONE day....not sure how long he lasted.

Even if I had a tank big enough, I would still be a little leary of keeping on just because I have seen them attack fish while diving and it is pretty darn impressive. That is one mean mouth that they have. I could just imagine dropping a piece of food in and having it jump up and take my finger with it.

I had a 4-5 footer run into my mask repeatedly while diving on the CaribSea ship wreck in North Carolina. He would back up about 3 feet and then just swim straight into my mask then back up again. The thrid time it did this I pulled my dive knife and it came towards the mask, made a 90 degree turn and swam off. Guess it did not want to be dinner :D

Keeping a barracuda in a home aquarium is insane. I'd be scared to clean the tank with that thing in there. Barracuda's are vicious.
