base rock query

I recently purchased two 1200 MJs for my 55 g. I have three frags of zoos that suddenly need to be glued down. I have a hunk of base rock that is currently serving as a decoration on my patio. I'd like to use that base rock to glue my zoos on. How do I get it clean enough to put in my tank? Can I just soak it in water for a couple of days, or what? Scrub it with vinegar and water? Any tips would be very helpful. Also, what should I use for glue? Thanks in advance.

Do you know the source of the rock and what it is made of? If you don't I would shy away from using it. You can pick up a nice piece of live rock from the LFS for$5 a pound or so and it doesn't sound like you need a huge piece.

I detect great fear in Entrophy, be mindfull Rich that fear can lead to the Darkside. :D

Put it in a bucket after rinsing a few times. Let it soak in fresh water for about two days then check the pH. If it is still in the range of 5.0 through 9.0 then you probably can use it. Just make sure it is clean.

Thanks guys,
The point of using the base rock was so I wouldn't have to buy any LR. I'm using a piece like it already (should have mentioned that). I bought them together, but put that one outside when I got my LR.
The input on the PH was new to me, so thanks for the info Waterkeeper; much appreciated.

BTW, I'm not sure what it's made of. It's twice as heavy as any other LR i've seen, but is similar in appearance, ie, has holes worn through it and looks fairly porous. Now that you mention it, I'm curious where it came from.
