Base Rock

I just got me a 240 gallon tank. (about time ) Im plumbing it into my current 40 gallon tank's sump so I can use some base rock to help on the cost of setting up this tank. Since I need to get SO much rock its going to take me some time to get this tank set up. Is there any place in around here to get some cheep ocean looking rock? What do you guys/gals suggest, other then keep on saving?

Have you thought about using PVC pipe to build a frame and then place your rock on that?

Yes i was going to do something like that.. but the price 400# of rock is going to be a conversation that will have me in the dog house for a week.

is hirocks still open? I got 60lbs for $60 shipped. Some nice rock, mostly smaller pieces though, maybe 3 larger ones.

FWIW if you watch the boards live rock will come up prety cheap fairly often from people changing/selling tanks etc.... I have seen several threads in the last year with people not being able to get rid of it.

nope they are closed down. i was gonna get some more from them a few months ago and they were no longer open. ive searched alot on them and other places that sell base rock and for some reason all of the places that had cheap base rock are shut down.

yea, i did a 60lbs order i guess a few months back. After I ordered the next day I went back to the site to look, and it said no longer there or somethin'. Of course, my first thought was I just got ripped. But, I didnt, it arrived on schedule. I like the rock I got from Wayne at last years swap, so I ordered me 60lbs just to have. It will come to use here soon...

I wouldn't expect rock to be at the swap... at least I never saw any in years past.

I got the last of Wayne's rock last year, but it is all small pieces (hammered whenever I need frag rocks). Great stuff.

I will have the remnants of the live rock in the tubs in my living room. There's not much left, but there is at least 10-15 pounds, I think.

I am still looking for rock by the ton I also may have a lead on some cheaper Tonga branch that I am looking into. I will be getting a few more tons soon as the work on the tanks are getting close as in I just grabbed 4 hammer heads while I was in CO for Christmas. And got the material for the liner this last weekend.
