Any local guys with Main floor displays and basement fish rooms there willing to show off. I'm getting ready to start my build list but have no idea where to start. I don't know what size plumbing to used, how to route the pipes, what pump to use for the ~ 14' head. This is all going to be for the 300DD that I'm finally setting up. Thanks everyone.

Jarrett shark Has a 300DD on the mainfloor of his office with another gazillion gallons in his basement. In the NYRC forum the top sticky is for member tank threads... His set up should be in there

OT...Joe B had some beautiful tanks..has anyone heard from him and is his 270 still running...it's been a few years

That build was clean and well built. Beautiful set up. I hope I can get close to the quality of that build.

Right now I'm having a hard time picking a return pump that I can run equipment off of as well as return the sump/refrigum water the at least 10-15' to the display tank.

For the return pump I'd go with the ReeFlo Barracuda or Hammerhead, the later will give you plenty.

My main 120gallon is in my living room in my basement I have the 40 gallon sump ,90 gal fuge and 30 gal cube frag tank

Anyone have a recommended drain pipe size for my application? My tank is a 300DD, I'm going to run a beananimal style overflow using both my overflows ( not sure yet in what configuration). I figure what I will try to do is run two full siphon (one in each overflow) and tie them to one pipe of double the size. The emergency drain will be in one box and the open channel in the other....... Or what I figure I can do is run the full siphon and open channel in one side and then on the other run the emergency drain and the pump return.

This large tank is new to me so I'm really not sure what to expect just yet so any input would be great. Thanks everyone

On my 170 I'm using two 1.5" overflows....one is an emergency and the other provides more than enough. I'm using a Dart which is only about 8' directly under the tank in my basement. Here is a pic of my overflow..the top is the emergency in case the bottom gets clogged...

and here is a pic of the basement fishroom..nice an simple..flows into the fuge/frag tank (the emergency pipe is directly into the sump) and then overflows into the sump and back up...

Thanks for the pics Mike, I think if you have a decent turnover then I will get plenty of turn over with one 1-1/2" main drain, one 1-1/2" open channel pipe and a 1-1/2" emergency. That leaves me with one open bulkhead for my return.

I think I'm going to run a reeflo barracuda/hammerhead pump from the basement. Until the tank is established enough to transfer my livestock from the 125 I will build an old 55 into my refrigum. Well thats the plan right now.
