Basement fuge up and running

The egg crate does not make any noise. I just modified it today. That's whats nice about egg crate. I needed to make it bigger as it will also hold my calcium reactor. I just cut the center, added a coupling and made it bigger.

Tim, have you experimented with running the return and skimmer off the same pump yet? I am interested in the results.

Yeah, what pump are you running for your return? i have a very simular setup that i'm building and would love to run my skimmer and chiller off the same return. I have an iwaki md100rlt w/around 12ft. of head loss. Also i will be feeding my refugium with that same supply. The only thoughts i have against feeding the skimmer off of the same pump are 2 things...i am moding my etss reef devil w/a beckett and it requires a bit more pump and 2,upgrading to a larger skimmer in the future requiring even more pump. I guess as long as it's valved i can close it off if needed.

what about putting the skimmer in the fuge and some rock in the pump tub that way you can reduce micro bubbles.

acutally instead of running the skimmer off a pump you could run it off your overflow (thats an aquac 120?).

I just finished my basement setup last weekend. I have my skimmer in the 100gal stock tank and I have no problems with micro bubbles. The 100 is big enough that the bubbles make their way to the top before they reach the outlet. I was glad it worked because baffling those tanks could be a challenge.

nice looking set-up, so nice and clean

mine's been added on so many times that it looks like a mad scientist
got into something,

and lost

What skimmer are you running?I plan on using a bucket bubble trap that everything dumps into.It might not be needed, but it can't hurt i guess.

I have a stock ASM G2. I am also running my sump at about 400gph turnover, if you run a lot higher you might run into bubble problems. I personally want my sump slow so the skimmer has a decent shot a processing as much as possible.

I haven't been successful running my skimmer off my return yet. I plan on trying this again as soon as some parts come in. I needed to get a 3/4 inch barbed valve to throttle the inlet to my skimmer. The flow was too strong to my skimmer on my first attempt. I'm using a Pan World 150PS return (rated 1100gph @ 28 ft). My calculated system head is 13 ft. I figure if I get a bigger skimmer in the future, I can revisit buying a new pump for the skimmer.

I am happy that I don't have any micro bubbles going back to the display tank. The 70 gal sump is large enough that the bubbles don't get sucked into the return.

If you look at the photos, I do have a spare connection on my overflow to try to run the skimmer by gravity. I was going trying to use the return first. The skimmer is an Aqua C 180.

Well I tried to run my EV-180 skimmer by gravity from my overflow. It did not work. Not enough flow or pressure. It was worth a try.
