I was thinking of putting my sump in our basement. I was wondering if there is a somewhat energy efficient pump to use for the return? It will be my 180 gallon reef. It will be traveling about 15 feet. I would appreciate any help. TY

Gina,
tell us a little bit more about how much flow you need. Our sump is in our garage, and there is somewhere around a 10' vertical rise (although it is over a long 17' slope rather than straight up like from a basement sump). We have been using the PanWorld 150ps for several years and it has performed beautifully - plenty of flow, runs cool, and used 160w average (which for us was about $7 per month).

I just need a basic return. I will have plenty of flow in the tank. I am just curious as well, if you do not heat your basement or garage in the winter, how often are the heaters on? All the time? Just wondering if there is a downside to having a basement sump. =) TY all.

I have a 180 with the sump in the basement. I use a Reeflo Barracuda for a closed loop, and a Reeflo Goby gold as my sump return pump. They are both pumping around 13 feet.
