what are you looking for or to know? To compare notes? or you got insight to share?

just passing by and wondering

basically just wondering if there is a reason no one else does this also my ph is 8.0 not 7.5. Trying to get help from other people attempting this as well.

I'd like to help but I'm not sure what you are referring to when you say "this" (as in what you are attempting)? A 55 gallon tank with softies and no sump or skimmer? There are plenty of people who run similar tanks. I think you may want to post this in the general reef discussion forum unless there is something I'm missing here. You will get more feed back there than in the advanced topics forum.

If you are you experiencing a problem or are looking for advise I'm not sure what the question or concern is. Your ph is a bit low (not fatal for what little I know about your set up) but the cause could be any number of things and lacking more info. I can't help much. Best of luck.

my tank is 45 gallons of soft corals(one LPS) with an ATS as only filter and 10 fish been that way for years.....not sure what you are asking as well but feel free to pm me :)

so whats missing compared to a "normal" setup? heaters and a skimmer? are you asking if anyone else doesn't use a skimmer?

i thought this was another "look ma, no water changes" thread until i saw that you are changing water.

My first reef tank was also a 55 sumpless with lr and deep sand bed. It was very stable and I had no issues with it. I did add a hang-on back skimmer, a Remora Pro, but other wise no other filtration. I kept lots of fish, softies and lps that grew like weeds. If I were to offer advice for your system, it would be to add an auto top-off and maybe a phosphate or phos/carbon reactor just to make life simpler down the road. A skimmer is not absolutely needed but will add an added aeration and buffer for any biological mishaps...dead critters, over-feeding, ect. Got any pics of your tank?

I got a chuckle out of that ....
