Bat fish in 180 gallon

My LFS says hard to keep them alive. Anybody have any luck with them?

Yes, I have a 14in Orbicle Batfish in my 180g FOWLR. He's been in their for about 4 years now. Eats like a Pig. Freeze dried and frozen krill, clam bits.

I wouldn't do it, those fish(primarily the triggers) might/will nip at it's fins and harass it.

What type of Bat Fish? Is it the difficult to keep red fin or the ich prone Orbi? Make sure you quarantine it for a while if you do purchase and i would agree with the above post about the fins being nipped at.

I have only kept Orbiculate's so i can't comment on the others, but I wouldn't recommend one in a 180. They get big fast. Mine went from 2 in, to 14 in less than a year. He's huge, eats a ton! I have mine in a 400 that is 36in tall and I think he could use a bigger tank. I also have a lot of tangs and a puffer and have not had any issues with his fins getting nipped at. HTH.
