Tested my BB today and it's charged fine, but in the process I noticed that the battery unit seems quite warm to the touch and the power supply is always lit red. Perhaps this is normal, and I simply did not notice before. Or do the new quiet drive controllers affect the BB differently?

Assuming the Battery Backup is operating normally and charging I wouldn't be concerned. Red on the power supply would indicate that the power supply is charging the Battery which could explain the heat.
