Battery backups for sump/powerheads

Can anybody out there recommend a battery backup system for me? I'm planning on using an eheim submersible pump in my sump, with koralia evo power heads in the DT. My concern, and feeling I need a backup, is because in the year I've lived in my new place, I've had four power outages, one of which was nearly 24 hours long...

I don't want to kill my pretty fish! Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I do not have a personal generator for my house, btw. Thinking about buying one in case my power goes out for a long time in the Minnesota winter, but don't think Id run the fish tank on it... Probably would save the wattage for ings like... Oh, the furnace :)
 
I use an Tripplite APS700 (NOT APC!) hooked up to a couple of deep cycle marine batteries - works much better than a PC ips as you can have a chain of batteries hooked up. For a 700w unit it costs about 300+batteries. This unti works like a UPS (charges batteries, runs on mains power) until the power goes off, then uses an inverter after that.

I have a generator, but the power never goes out when I'm here - this gives me 8-10 hours of runtime on the critical equipment - enough so I can get homne and sort out, or at least bring the gen up.
 
To run pumps safely, you need a UPS that will emit pure sine wave, rather than a stepped approximation. This unfortunately puts you into a somewhat expensive bracket of UPS models. For example, the APC SmartUPS series emits sine wave, while the BackUPS series does not. The cost difference is quite substantial.

I use an APC SmartUPS 1000.
 
I also use the APC Smart UPS 1000. It gives me 8 hours for two Koralias and a powerhead in the sump. After that I have a Honda 3000 power plant.

Thanks for the input all! Not what I was hoping, but it was what I was expecting :D Any other tips/tricks would be welcome, if there are any. I'll look into the APS and APC.
