Why battle, why only 2 sexes, what this has to do with the reefing, and this is the wrong way to get a a representative count: you get count of the people, having a lot of time in their hands to discuss the non-constructive (say, not helpful for a reef) topics, attracted by a word of "battle" (more of petty lady-dogging, you know what I mean), and subtle suggesting that participation means winning - why are we kidding?
Sorry, had exactly this kind of day - too much even for me.

I have a really bad*** 1999 Jetta! All your cars shiver in front of it! Since I'm only 16 it's the best I could do. I love it though, I'll hopefully get a new one in the future! Volkswagens RULE!!!!

-Well, yes, the word "battle" probably was to sell the post a bit.

-Why only 2 sexes?.. I thought about that.. but... sorry, take up the politically correct nature of M/F forms in another forum... or should we have a vote re-count?

-I realize this count isn't representative of all reefers or nano reefers. Hence the little sentence in my first post stating "Nano Reefes, on the Nano Forum ". If it were completely representative I would have said so. No poll i've ever heard of has been a complete census of everyone....

-petty-lady dogging? Maybe I was curious, as were some other people, I don't think this was to single anyone out. Is the cup half-full or half-empty? Half-empty it seems in your world.

I don't think this poll has taken away from people's time to respond to others with more reef related material. People will do what they want, read what they want and spend their time on what they want. Maybe if I spent 2 less minutes in the shower everyday I would have another 14 minutes a week to post on this forum....Why would we vote on nTOTM, that isn't necessarily productive either, pretty competitive in my opinion.

Anyways, I could go on and on... but I think sometimes people are a little too serious around here. For most of us this is a hobby, not work. If it's work for you to do this, then you picked a crappy hobby.

We're conversing with each other enough, I see no problem with adding a little personality to it all.

TS you had a bad day, some people enjoyed this post.

:)

Sweet! Another cool chick! Surfing is fun! You live up north, do you snowboard? I've been a few times, LOVED it, but living in south Florida, we don't get too much snow around here. :D I'm debating on setting up a lil 2.5 gal pico I have, but I'm still undecided. I think it would be a ton more work than my 24 gal! I may throw it together when I put my 105gal together just to see what I can do with it. No fish, just some zoos and a shroom or two. Any pics or a link to your 3 gal pico?

And yeah, fire rocks...Thank God my bf is a firefighter!! :D

... no... sadly... I don't snowboard. I'm far too accident proned to snowboard.

I had pics of my pico, but I've been so disheartened with it recently that I took them all down. I'm trying to fix a mistake a misguided, but well-meaning friend did as a belated Christmas present (why, oh why, does everyone outside of the reef hobby think that every saltwater tank needs a clownfish?). I've got a larger tank cycling to fix the mistake. This does not necessarily mean I'm getting rid of the pico altogether. I've got big plans for that little tank involving some experiments in coral propagation.

And, definitely, fire rocks. I <3 my girly fire poi! Single wick cathedrals on 22" #15 ball chain. When I actually get a chance to spin, we usually spin with Coleman's for brighter, cleaner burns. Beautiful stuff. And there is nothing more liberating, more intense feeling in the world, the most incredible of rushes. Do you spin?

I have no idea what spinning means, but it sounds fun! I just play with it. Its also pretty intriguing. My bf went to fire school not to long ago, and learned about all the mechanics of making fire, how it burns, etc...pretty involved stuff!

I did burn my fingers pretty bad about 2 years ago...who would have thought tape was so flammable?

And who's ready to start this calendar? haha...anyone want to volunteer to be the photographer?

Fire spinning generally involves taking wicks soaked in a fuel, lighting them ablaze, and making it look pretty and safe as possible. I prefer poi, based off a traditional, Maori dancing art. It involves spinning wicks attached to chains about your body. So, the fire actually moves around you. It's incredibly hot and loud, but that just makes for an amazing rush.

.... but it takes tons of practice to burn safe, as well as prepation, a level head, and an excellent safety/trusted friend with the same qualities.

I have a new camera coming in the mail..! I guess i'll need a few subjects.

I didn't really know what "fire poi" or spinning was.. a quick google search fixed that, cool stuff!

Sugar, just search for fire poi.

So what are we doing again? All I know so far is that SugarFox03 is pretty hot and I mean that in the most honest and least insulting way. aclos3 has a sweet ride, and Rosseau has like the best place to live in. Love that lake by the way.:D

or.. she can post seconds before me and explain it properly. :)

.... sorry *blush*

I'm just so used to getting people giving me blank stares or asking me what I'm doing with "that Hawaiian pudden-y stuff" that I figured it would be best to clarify. But googling or youtubing it turns up pretty pictures and videos that speak far more than words ever could.

joeyjoeq,

You're just about up to speed by now. I think you even picked up on the animosity that appears to be developing quickly over this thread. "least insulting way"

Maybe it's only a matter of time before this thread gets thrown out, or moved to the Lounge forum..... let's hope not!

A related question is--why is it a male dominated hobby, and what/how did the women here get involved in it?
Perhaps an intervention for social equality in the works?

In all honesty..... technically, family tradition. I showed an interest, and my dad jumped on it. He and my grandfather bred show-quality fancy guppies (*although, they pale in comparison with today's variants, admittedly).

I got into saltwater because of one man. Danny Bradley. He showed me that no only was saltwater and coral possible- but that it could be EASY! I was shocked. If any of you ever have the pleasure of working with him, I highly recommend it. He is the African cichlid guru, as well as an awesome saltwater guy. Danny opened my eyes to a whole new world of fish keeping, and to all the subtle nuances that could be tinkered with. From there, it's been a whirlwind quest to eat up as much knowledge as possible.

.... too bad my degree is graphic design, bfa. :p
