BB or sand?

I setup a little 5gal in the kitchen since im not sure as to when i will be able to move in my 75 to the new apartment. Its housing my LPS corals(2 colonies of frogspawn and a bullseye rhodactis shroom) and im trying to decide if i should go bb or a fine layer of sand. what do you guys think?
 
Hmmm, you are about to start something...this has been a big debate all over this site... do a search and you'll see all the threads...
 
Well IMO I think sand looks more natural and gives the little creepy crawly things a place to thrive in the tank. Plus it is a good place for some beneficial bacteria to grow. As for BB its easier to have insane flow since you wont have sand blowing around and I would imagine its easier to clean up any detris that settles in the tank. But it doesn't really look all that great. Don't get me wrong, I have seen BB tanks that look great, but not near as many as tanks with substrate. Besides with such a small tank do you really think you would get any of the benefits of going BB?
 
Sand is kind of what i ws planning on too however it looks real neat without sand right now.

As far as lighting and flow is concerned, i plan on adding a tunze mini pump and and looking at a 32watt PC retro fit since the 5 is a eclispe hex tank.

Im not starting anything bpd, i threw up a post about if i should bother to throw any sand in a 5 gallon or not since all that will be in there is corals and maybe a sexy shrimp. I really dont think that a debate over going bb in a 5gal is groundbeaking news.
 
I removed the biowheel since the end up as nitrate factories in SW. I left the filter catridge it came with for now since has carbon to clean up any of the waste from the corals being moved.

I will probably just take a sponge and cut that to fit and then find a nice piece of rock for the water to flow over.

I chose corals like the frogspawns and mushrooms because they come from a little bit more nutrient rich areas. I probably wont add a protien skimmer since i hate clutter and i dont want equipment spilling out all over the kitchen.

Excess waste wont be very heavy since the only hitcherhikers are microfauna and a snail.
 
What are you doing for flow?I am asking this because i have the same tank and it is not being used am i am thinking about doing this.

I need to edit the wattage as i meant 13watt rather than 32watt. This can be found at AHSupply.com. as far as the tunze, im currently working a local shop to see if they can aquire one. I know hydor is working on a nano koralia for about 100gph.

The retro may or may not work as i look at it but i may be able to take a small t5 spider reflector and cut it with a table saw to fit since the "reflector" it comes with is a piece of brushed aluminum.
 
I would think 13 watt PC would not be enough light for the frogspawn.I have a 5 gal nano with a 36 watt PC hood and I would not want any less wattage, more would be better. I have a frogspawn and zoos in mine, and they do OK but the color could be better.
