BB reefers-are you using remote SB or none at all

I am setting up a barebottom, and may add sand to a fuge.
Are most of the BB reefers staying sand free in the whole system?

My first impression, yes. It seems remote sand beds are being replaced with traps and other areas. Fuges are also slowly disappearing. Most of the high end SPS tanks I see are all bare bottom, slow flow traps, and ultra skimming.

No remote sand beds here. Just ol' school water changes, aggressive skimming, and high flow. Along with newer school GFO, of course.

Just converted my 120 SPS only tank to bare bottom 2 weeks ago and really prefer it. One amazing thing is when I took out the 160 lbs of sand by hose method into large buckets is how filthy the sand was, it may look good in the tank, but really holds a lot of detritus. Took it out to increase flow with my Tunzes without a sand storm and to rearrange tank and remove two fish. Like others, I over skim and use RowaPhos. Soon to drop bio-pellets and use a sulfur nitrate reactor with an extra large aragonite reactor to keep ph stable. This will also allow me to have more nutrients for corals. Also changed to CA reactor a month ago and now have very stable alk and cal, no more two part dosing. In 30 days the alk has never varied over .5 dKh
