BB sps tanks?

I have not had sand in a tank since I tore down my 110 and almost barfed when taking out the sand. Bare bottom tanks loose the sterile look after a few months.

Here is my 60 cube.

I went BB after struggling with dirty sand. Got frustrated enough to just remove it one day. I may bring it back eventually, but I'm enjoying the simplicity for now.

Figured id just pull it all now. Re-arranged my rocks so I figured all the sand was stirred up anyways. only had about an inch of sand.

I actually really like this look, with just the remnants of sand around the rocks. It really sets the reef apart from the box- even more so than the scape alone..
With this look, you get the look of sand around the reef but still have mostly bare bottom and it allows you to glue encrusting corals to the bottom.. in time the glass bottom will be encrusted with all sorts of stuff.
I used a thin layer of sand in my tank but the pumps pushed it off the front.. now I'm using the glass part to put some favias or montis..

Hopefully in the next few to several months I'll get to do an upgrade and i've been debating this very thing. I've always had sand, like the look, but get tired of seeing it fly around the tank when the fish kick it up.

For those that have taken it out, I've heard that rocks will shed for awhile until its all gone? Doesnt the bottom glass get full of green algae since its not being scraped off like the side panels every few days?
