I am cycling a 29 gallon biocube. My amonia has gone to 0 and the nitrites have dropped to 0.1. However I have this green substance on the pukani rock in the BC. Is this something that will go away as the cycle completes or do I have a problem?
It's cyanobacteria, just the green version instead of maroon. Very common part of the cycle. Pull out what you can, as your tank starts to stabilize it should start to disappear.
Leave your lights off for the cycle and cover the tank with a towel if it's in a well lit room. No real need for light during the cycle and it just helps algae, and cyano, grow.
I've honestly never seen algae like that in an SW tank before, though I doubt it's cyano. Lights out isn't a bad idea, and make sure you are using some type of phosphate control and it should get it in check.
