BC14 2nd chamber/filter help

Hi all,

Setting up my BC14 after a x-country move.

-Sand/live rock in place.
-1st Chamber: BC skimmer
-2nd Chamber: removed BioBalls, affixed external light, will add chaeto.
-3rd Chamber: upgraded return pump to 1200 from 900
-Display area: 1 Coralia pump, 1 heater.

I could use some help with some problems.

1) While the circulation is excellent, the intake from the display area into the filter area is not sucking in particulates that are in suspension. The particulates just endlessly circulate without going into the filter section. Water flows very well, but the particulates don't make it through the intake.

2) 2nd chamber is now noisy, and only partially fills with water. How do I get the water level up in the 2nd chamber in order to put in the macro-algae?

Thanks!!

I'm not sure about #1. My BC14 filters just fine. Things eventually go through the filter grates into chamber 1 but it can take a while depending on how your in-tank flow is pointed.

As for #2: once the bioballs are removed you can ignore the MIN / MAX water level window. It exists to make sure that there is enough water level difference to keep a trickle filter going but without the bioballs it just makes a waterfall. You can keep chamber 3 filled up as high as you want until the chamber 2 water level stops being noisy.

1. The particulet will make it in there eventuly, if you are really worries about it you can mess with your return line to change the flow of the watter ... but in the end it will not matter, the particulets will go through eventualy.

2 I ran the intank media basket in my 2nd chamber and I just fill the 3ed chamber all the way up to the top. It stops all the watterfall noise as well as extends the amout of time between top offs.

Hope this helped

Media basket works best!!! Put filter floss on top, chemi pure elite or purigen in middle and chaeto on bottom. Remove the sponge in 3rd chamber and remove false floors in chamber 1&2. That's my 2 cents
