1) for any tank a good goal is 1.5 pounds per gallon for good filtration, but if you want more swimming room for fish you can cut back accordingly, you just have to also realize your removing some of the best filtration mother nature can provide. Remember aquascaping is really up to you, making your tank look a certain way, being able to keep a certain number or type of fish, or just creating one really cool but expensive avalanche.
2)its possible, however i wouldent, one if your not carefull placing it it could crack your side or create a mini avalanche that would crack the side. secondly i wouldent want to lean it up against the side because of what type of glass it is, curved 1 peice front. these tanks are already notorius for breaking and cracking with no notice, i think possibly because most people forget glass is just a very slow moving liquid and these kinds of shapes, like a one curved front, does not lend its self very well to the eventual setteling of more glass at the bottom.
