BC29 - How much live rock?

I am setting up my BC29 and will be ordering live rock very soon. I am just trying to decide how many pounds to get. I would like to have a lot of the back covered up by rock.

How many pounds of rock do other BC29 owners have?

Can you lean the rock agains the back of the BC29?

Thanks for any input!
Dave

1) for any tank a good goal is 1.5 pounds per gallon for good filtration, but if you want more swimming room for fish you can cut back accordingly, you just have to also realize your removing some of the best filtration mother nature can provide. Remember aquascaping is really up to you, making your tank look a certain way, being able to keep a certain number or type of fish, or just creating one really cool but expensive avalanche.
2)its possible, however i wouldent, one if your not carefull placing it it could crack your side or create a mini avalanche that would crack the side. secondly i wouldent want to lean it up against the side because of what type of glass it is, curved 1 peice front. these tanks are already notorius for breaking and cracking with no notice, i think possibly because most people forget glass is just a very slow moving liquid and these kinds of shapes, like a one curved front, does not lend its self very well to the eventual setteling of more glass at the bottom.

p.s. your tank lookg great so far keep up the good work. what type of sand did you use... iv been looking for stuff that white and keep forgetting to ask people

Thanks for your input. The back of the display area is actually plastic, so I am not sure how that would hold up to rock leaning up against it.

Here is the sand I bought. It is the very fine agrasnow type. I ordered it through Premium Aquatics.

Thanks,

leaning it up agains the back is fine, just try to stay away from the side unless your aqauscaping is really stable. and just wondering is that bag clear, it looked brown befor you put it in th water?

I would say the color is ivory. It is not pure white, but under the tank lighting, it looks almost white.

The bag is clear but the picture I took could probably be color corrected a little better. The sand isn't that brown looking.

2ndThief,
Thanks for the picture that really helps to judge how much I should get. I think I might want more than 30 lbs now. That is some nice looking rock. Where did you get it?

Dave

I'm blessed with an amazing LFS called bioreef. www.bioreef.com they sell four different types of fully cured live rock, while I'm not sure about online availability you could probably shoot them an e-mail.
