so i was in a LFS this week, (im not going to name it for fear of being flamed) and upon inspection of one of the coral tanks it had a flatworm problem, on a lot of corals

so im sure all of you do already but if not, make sure you check and dip all your newly aquired purchases, something i did not do,

and i think now i will do it, im not sure what i should be using to dip with LPS, zoos and softies, but maybe someone can tell me what and where to purchase.

thanks

Most stores have this problem. There aquiring corals almost every week and sometimes don't have the time to dip the corals as they receive them as not only can it be time consuming, but costly. I think it is our duty to quarantine these corals before putting them in our tank.

If you are looking for a method to do this, Rogger has a very good one that I would do to any and ALL corals before putting them into my tank, no matter who I got them from.

Ditto!

It is our job to dip and treat for everything prior to adding it to our aquariums.

Especially if I only get flatworms that would be the least of my worries. Some flatworm exit and thats it. I am afraid of the AEFW's. montipora eating nudies, and zoanthid eating nudibranches.

I bet u if you do a survey 75-80% of corals from the swap had some sort of pest that either went unnoticed or was caught with a couple of simple dips, even corals from so called established trusted tanks!;)

what!! i didnt treat any of my corals from the swap! i was under the impression that they were coming from trusted reefers who had already treated them or there was no need to treat them.

OK, so i dont want to go out and buy all of these products, can someone tell me ONE product that would do the most benefit, and then how to dip it.

thanks

Those are the most reliable products to use and I mean, if you want to come here and complain about the situation when your not even willing to take the recommended precautions then why even make the post in the first place?

I am sure all the people you purchased from at the frag swap were trusted reefers and many of them probably didn't even know they had the problem...

Just don't take anyones word for it and take the proper precautions as you should anyways...

Just the way I feel about the situation,

You never really know and it is YOUR responsibility to treat everything before it goes into your system. I have gotten frags from the nicest and very well known people in the club that have had pests.

If you have been in the hobby for over a year or so you will encounter some pest even sometimes with dips.

I have had red bugs, montipora eating nudis, basic flatworms and zoanthid eating spiders. After numerous treatments and dips I havn't had signs of any of these in a longg time but like I said before you never really know.

Listen, I'm sure I was considered a "trusted reefer" at one point in time... I know more than the average hobbyist, but I'm by no means an expert, and at least twice I had redbugs and didn't know it. The second I found out, I let everyone I traded with know, and stopped my trading right there. To me, that's what a trusted reefer would do. A trusted reefer isn't exactly perfect, I don't believe there is a perfect reefer. Towards the end, it took Rogger to show me that I had AEFW, and I ended up giving him my prized stag, which he cured, and it's now one of the nicest colonies (and hugest) in the tank! One day I may get a frag of it from him, but right now I'm very happy it went to a great home. I very carefully checked every frag I got at the swap, even though for the most part I bought only from 3 people... People I trusted. No problems as far as I know, but as we all know, it could take a couple of months to see an infestation.
