Beautiful clam tanks...

So what exactly makes a tank a clam tank? Do you have to have over a certain number of clams? Do they have to out number all other organisms in the tank? I've got a 72 gallon reef with 4 clams in it. I think more than most people would have, but I would not call it a clam tank.

I suppose I could post a picture of my babies in my sps/clam tank.

Skip is on the hunt for a new TOTM! I like this thread and the LPS thread. Kayla's (Flipturn88) is really nice, and I think you should consider that Skip. It would be really awesome for one of us teenagers to get a TOTM :D

bagedtaco,

I followed your posts while making the tank. Are these pics with the pumps on or off? I am wanting to make a clam tank and your design I think is very good. Although, the water over the sides I think would distort the view. Is this the case? If you would please send me pics with the pumps on.

Thanks,

Jeff

bagedtaco - Now that's what I call a clam tank!!!!

But the question still remains, at what point does a tank become a clam tank?

thanks everyone...

jr719.. that is with the pump off... one side of the tank (the front) stays dry even with the pump on. but it was realy met to be viewed top down. i'm working on a way to keep the surface smooth for viewing at the moment and will be trying it in the next few weeks. it will also help with the back flow if a pump goes out.

bagedtaco,

Really interested what you come up with to keep the surface smooth. Keep us posted.

My digital photography skills leave a lot to be desired...the white balance thingy is a real PITA....But here are some shots of my 57 gallon clam tank.

Scuba Dog,
What is the deg of the bevel of the acrylic on your tank? It does not look like much, what, around 20 deg? What is the surface like? smooth or very "rippley"?

Jeff

JR719

Your right on the money Jeff, Its 20 deg...but its a glass tank picked it up in Rogers Arkansas for 150 bucks. The surface is very smooth...I should have went with a larger return pump than a mag 7, might bump it up to a mag9.5 at a later date..thats why I went with the SEIO 620s to rid the tank of some dead spots....the dimensions are 34 X 30 X 13

The 20 degree is an improvement on seeing the colors of the clams, but not quite as much as I would like....But rarely I view it from the glass, but instead "I Look Down" The open top is pretty cool....so much easier to deal with the clams I have been diping, or rearanging rock work....
