Becket skimmer question???? Urgent

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone that helped me with ideas to get this skimmer going without adding another pump. Expesially Rbredding thaks so much for your ideas and pictures. I have the skimmer hooked up almost exactly like yours. And it is pulling out gunk already, only been about 1 hour. Anyways Thanks again everyone!

AWESOME!!!!!

I love it when people try new things and it works for them... (new things being not running a pump for every single piece of equipment under a stand)

GREAT TO HEAR!!!!

Thats great news.. I have to say, I was sceptical. Its definately nice not having to add an additional pump.

I am glad it worked out for him. I never in a million years would have considered running a Beckett skimmer of the return until you pointed out your success! I stand to be corrected. It's people like you who think outside the box that help to make RC a better place!

With a Eheim 1262 I was able to get 45scfh from a beckett 1408 injector on my KZ skimmer. The pump only has a max head of 11.8" so it far from pressure rated.

I think that becketts have a little confusion that surrounds them based on the requirements to produce results when they were first brought into the market...

I only have experience with MRC Beckett Skimmers, but they run VERY efficiently.. I think the "designs of today" are just better designs than when the skimmers first hit the market..

Well this is a very old thread ya resurrected biecacka, Beckett skimmers work on down force, so it's not just the water flowing through them but the force of the water going through the Beckett. That's what pulls the air into the skimmer and creates the bubbles.

HTH

Yea I knew it was an old one. Just getting a new skimmer here soon and was curious about any efficiency difference or other variables to consider.

I am using a mrc Beckett mr4 recirc on a 450 gal setup. The feed pump is a 950 gph pump at app 90 watts and the recirc pump is a high pressure wahoo sequence pump rated at 250 watts. Works well.
