beckett air injector problem

I have a diy beckett...mrc clone.
The air injector is sucking an enormous amount of air, and the valve does nothing at all. I put my finger over the end and it does not change the bubble column at all.
How can it still be getting air with it closed???

anybody got a clue...

You have an air leak somewhere other than the valve.

let me ask a stupid question...This is my first beckett, what is the best way to use it with a waste bucket??? I have tried to use a five gallon bucket but I keep losing the seal. Does it have to have a vent for air or not???
Can I get a screw on lid container and put a bulkhead or some type of threaded hose barb in through the lid and will that work???

would air coming out of the collection bucket cause this ???

Well it's likely on the beckett housing. either around the valve or the removalble top may not have or has a damaged o-ring.
