Beeker's 200g DD PAR38 lit Reef

Well my other 2 tanks are on the same circuit as this tank is, so when i get those tanks shut down and corals transfered i'll add the other 8 lights

I'm going to be taking down 2 150W MH's that are on the same circuit so i won't overload anything, 16 bulbs at 15w's each is only 240w's total, i'll be far under what my main 29g BC uses for power now when this tank is all done, lol

I'm glad to watch this come together as I have the 36" Marineland Deep tank, and will be outfitting it completely with PAR38's as well. I'll be doing minimal coral in mine though, so looking at much fewer lamps than you

Are you using all the same lamp color & optic lens? I'm thinking of doing some wide coverage with the bluer lamps and spotlighting 2 or 3 spots with some of the narrower white lamps.

I look forward to seeing the rest of your bulbs installed & lit - definitely tagging along for this one.

for right now i'll be going with 16 12k 40 optic PAR38's

i think i'll add 4 all blue bulbs to the mix eventually to give a little more flourescents to the corals as well as giving the tank a little more depth with the soft blue light comming thru the center of the 12k's

hopefull i'll be getting my hands on a PAR meter this weekend and will have some shots of that up next week, can't wait to see the results myself

Will the blue bulbs be 40 optic or will you go with something higher?

Marty

most likely i'd get the all blues with 80 or 60 optics, not really going for an increase of PAR more or less just want a little more depth to the tank and a little more flourescents from the corals

colors on my sps look great though, it might take another month or 2 for them to color up or change color, i'm watching them daily for this and so far they are retaining the same color they had under my pheonix 14k under the leds

Check out Current Powerbrites or the Finnex version of them... they're super low profile, you could attach them to your light rack, and you would probably only need two to light up the whole footprint if hung high enough, if not four would definitely work.

Looks awesome so far!

i checked out the powerbrites but for a 4 foot fixture it was around 240 i think, kindof pricey for moon lighting, although i'm sure i could come up with a way to use them to blend with the PAR38's but i can't attach a strip to the rails cause the size of the PAR38's would block some light, though if i mount the strip right down the middle of the track from front to back it could possibly workout nicely

It will be awhile before i get to that point, still have an MP40 to get and another 8 PAR38's lol

I think you're thinking of something else... here's the PowerBrites: http://premiumaquatics.com/store/me...uct_Code=CU-USA01647&Category_Code=CurrentLED They're 12" long, and under $60. You can "link" them if necessary. They give corals crazy pop, might be a bit much for moonlighting though. I know several people that have them mounted to the ceiling, way above their tanks, and one unit lights up the whole thing and looks incredible (SunnyX is one person).

Been there!

your right i was looking at something else, lol

The finnex moonlights look pretty good i honestly think thats probably what i'll go with when the time comes, slowly but surely i'm getting there, now only if the guy from my local reef club would bring the damn PAR meter that would be awesome, but so far he's been mia

nice built there! and you got nice livestock... are those yellow tang pair? if yes, can you illustrate how to pair two yellow tangs... thanks...

as far as i know they aren't a pair, they just swim together kindof like a school sometimes

i went to my LFS and they had 3 tank raised yellow tangs, 2 of the tangs were schooling with eachother and the 3rd tang in the tank wasn't so i went ahead and got the 2 that seemed more into each other, they swim together pretty often, my powder blue tang is the leader of the pack though it's funny as hell to watch them after i rubber band some Nori to my mag float, they all swarm on it like flys to honey

thanks for that tip.. will try to imitate your style... will check on my lfs if they have some hyt that swims together... thanks again...

the bulbs are 6 inches off the water, total 33 inches from the bottom of the tank

That deep dimension is looking really good...

Im thinking of doing a 150DD with maybe all par38s

How far from the water surface do you have the bulbs at and how far from the surface is the light rail?

THX in advance
