the lights in the beginning were really intense. its like shining a death laser in the tank. looks like it was toned down and it looks nicer that way.

the lights are now about 6 inches off the water and about 33 inches from the bottom of the tank, lol

I like my lasers :)

The tank looks great! I think you may be paving the way with the PAR38 led's.

I wanted to check in and see if you had any updates? How do you like the spot lighting effect of the PAR38?

Beeker, I have been looking into getting one of these for a nao tank of 20 gallons octagonal, do you think 1 will be enough light to keep sps, and also where do you suggest to get them? Are these PAR 38's the same one that thatfishplace.com is saling now? The Ecocxotic manufactured bulbs?

I got all my PAR38's from nanocustoms, they are very great to work with and can almost do any type of led combo you want that cree makes in a PAR38 bulb

the lights don't have the spotlight effect once you start angling them and crossing the beams it honestly blends very well, you only notice the beam effect in pictures and when there is a lot of micro bubbles in the display other than that you can't see them in person

the right side of my tank has about 12 bulbs over it now, you can't tell that it has 12 bulbs over it from the pics (the new ones i take)

i will be taking new pics by oct 15th i'm waiting for the sps to adjust to the last set of 8 bulbs i got

i got 4 20k's with 40 optics and 4 all royal blue bulbs with 60 optics

Will have new pics up by oct 15th

New pics up as promised, Although with the extra 8 bulbs over the tank taking these picture and having them look decent is almost impossible but i did my best, lol

How did I miss this?
Beautiful! I LOVE the light rack. FWIW I'm running a few of the ecoexotic par 38's now and I love them. If I had to do it all over again I would definitely go all LED instead of the MH spots. That set up is just awesome, well done.

That first pic is great with the reef starting to fill out on the right and the open swim space on the left.

The lighting looks very dramatic and high contrast. You are starting to develop some great layering through the depth of the tank. Very nice indeed!

you need to move some of those corals I have a 200 dd and that close together u are going to have a battle

u have almost no rock in that tank

hah that is the fun part for me keeping them close, i hate looking at bare patches on the rock work in my tank

i wanted to go with a minimal amount of rockwork, i love having open space and room for corals to be placed and have room for themselves to grow, the rock you see is still around 150lbs, the tank is 3 feet deep and because of this the rock in the back is piled up a little and hides a decent amount of it

eventually i will have moved and rearranged most of the corals 3-4 times, i moved them as they grow, things grow faster and i move them into a spot with more room for growth so on and so on

it takes about 2-3 months before any of my corals incrust or touch, so i leave them alone for that time, when they touch is when i start moving them, the goal for me and my tank is to have as much coral and color in a given space as i can thus creating a full effect without having much rock

the front left of the tank isn't lit yet as well, so once i get bulbs over that section i will be arranging the rock work again on that side

new pics will be up in a week or so been busy
