I saw a really cool little cube tank the other day, and I think I'm gonna buy it. It can't be more than 8 gal, I want to make a tiny little reef tank.

I need a small light fixture, preferably LED, that can sustain softies, and possibly some basic LPS (acans, or frogspawn).

It is a rimless 8 gal with black seams, it just looks very simple but very classy at the same time.

It's going to be black sand with a simple filter setup. Tall skinny rock outcrop with corals growing from the sides, and a small ledge with zoas.
Let's see what's out there!

I had to get out of the hobby when my son was born, it was a very rough pregnancy with a very rough recovery. The money's not there, so I can't get back into it full tilt.

Anyone here have any tiny reef tanks they'd like to share pics of, so I can get some ideas?

What's up Chris, how's it going. Im glad to see you're getting back into the hobby. Look into a par38 led light it should be more then enough for what you're looking to do.

hey man, welcome back

I have been messing around with inexpensive LED from ebay, plenty of light for an 8 gallon. Would suggest looking for a fixture or housing that can be made or bought, something that goes well with the tank. Then incorporate the LED into it. Just needs to be big enough to hold a some aluminum flat stock and a couple inches deep to hide the LED.

I can send ya links of the LED I have had success with if interested

Done with DIY, just don't have time, now I have the boat to work on... and not go out on (looking at the forecast for this weekend, 21mph winds out of the north!!!, during the mutton run no less!)

I saw a cool clamp on light that's bright as heck for $100 at Barrier reef, and it's a mix of blue and white.

Just looking if someone might have a good used light that a budget-minded guy can get into cheaper, and it's only for 8 gallons, so a small one (12" wide) would do nicely.

I just bought a little par 38 bulb for a 12g tank and supper happy with the light. Cheap and bright enough to try some lower light SPS at the high end of the tank. Well worth the money.
