Been doing some experimenting with dark images... Input?

Earlier this week, my wife and I went out to a couple spots I've been wanting to photograph for a while so I could get my shots. I've done the editing in Photoshop 7 and most of the shots were shot in auto mode with adjusted ISO readings of 800. I'm using a Nikon D40.

Let me know what you think, and feel free to check out my DeviantArt.com page and follow me if you're a member!

Wow, I really like those. That first one would be really cool with the DoF stacking software that was just discussed elsewhere.

Awesome pics, but please do me a favor. PLEASE be careful around those railcars/engines! They can be killers and they can be silent, I know its hard to imagine but I spend a minimum of 40 hours a week around them.

Thanks for the comments. The train I was photographing has been sitting dormant for at least a year and has no engine car attached, but I know what you're saying about them being dangerous...

At a risk of getting off topic, how can old railcars be dangerous? I havent spent any time around them so I'm clueless.

As far as the pictures go, they are interesting, but to me there is too many distracting elements included in them. I think I'd like them more if you had less depth of field and really blurred out the background, or else composed the shot differently to now show so much of what is going on in the back of the shot.

I realize the effect you are going for, but imo the background is just too "busy" to make it work.

Just my 2 cents!

Thanks for the input, this is what I posted them for! I've got a few more places I'm wanting to shoot before the snow starts falling, so I'll take what you have said and try to use it for those shoots...
