Before I begin stocking . . .

Though I have read a lot about the different corals, drawing from other's experience is valuable. Assuming I have all the light I need for anything I may want to get and all other parameters are right, what would you suggest I NOT ever put into my reef tank? My goal is diversity.

Why? do they spread too quickly or are they difficult? I got a rock with some once and they simply melted away in my 80 g FOWLR.

Mushrooms...Over time they really spread. Elegance Coral...Widely available (but should not be imo) and very hard to keep.

Unless you can isolate them on an island, mushrooms, star polyps, kenya tree, and xenia. All spread quickly and will dominate a tank in time.

Careful with that Nova T5 fixture and placing anything light demanding on the bottom of the tank.

Thanks!
Luckily I don't care for the look of mushrooms. I am going to experiment with the Nova. When I got them, I was told they would work for anything I wanted to keep; the supplier and I emailed back and forth about this and he agreed that if I find the light deficient, he will do a full exchange for another. I saved the emails just in case.

Good call here.

Beer, It makes your skimmer go crazy. Jk.

Really though when dealing with xenia/mushrooms/GSP they can't spread if they don't have anything to spread to. put them on an 'island' by themselves. Then if you ever want to remove them you can. People kill me when they try to put a rare acropora on the same rock as xenia, then they blame the xenia when it takes over the rock. Some People......

Ha! I can image. Only vodka in my tank!

How about if I put a xenia on a small rock and glue it to a larger one. Will it still grow to the larger one? I was really hoping to have a little bit of that.
