Beginner anemones

I want to start a anemone / clown tank in my 55g with some coral. What would be the best anemone for this with my limited experience?

No such thing as a 'beginner' anemone, they're not easy creatures to keep regardless of what kind of anemone it is. For better advice I would suggest you tell us more about your system, age, lighting, etc. so we can help you make a better decision on whether you're ready to have an anemone

well i have a 55 gallon tank that i want to make a salt water tank. i am kind of crazy when i get into something and have to research everything and have a plan down to the T. i know that there will be hiccups but yea. so mabey a LPS would be better since i am a "noob"? if i go that route i want something that they can swim in like a bta. i just like the relationships that clowns have with a host.

Well you should start to determine what the centerpiece of your tank is going to be. Sounds like you are most interested in a nem/clownfish. That may preclude you from getting other residents, if for no other reason the lack of space.

All will need a mature tank, most of the people in the know will say your tank should be at least a year old up and running before attempting a nem for the first time. Being your first venture into sw, i would tend to agree with that.

They need flow, but powerheads are dangerous (not impossible) because nems move, especially BTAs which are the most 'hardy', hardy being in quotation marks because as was stated, they are still pretty sensitive. Closed loops or waveboxes are my preferred methods for water movement in my bta tank. Strong lighting is needed, though btas are tolerant of more subdued lighting compared to others.

so if i go LPS coral instead of a nem would that be ok until my tank matures? are the clowns hardy enough to go in quick? i want to use live rock and live sand by themselves for a couple months so i can make sure the hitchhikers are safe for the animals i want in my tank. i would like to have a coral safe cleaner pack, LPS, clowns, maybe a couple green manderin dragonets, a couple blennys, flame angel. i dont want it to be too crowded but i want a couple interesting small fish that will get along with the clowns and reef. any suggestions?

Mandarins need mature tanks more than nems...many don't eat non live foods, and you need an established pod population to sustain them. Lps are definitely hardier, but may be the subject of picking by the flame angel. Blennys are typically one per tank...they are sometimes aggressive toward fish with similar body structure. A flame angel in a 55 MAY be the limit of fish, but I'm not certain.

As long as your levels are all right and you have a really good light you will be fine with a bta. Try a green bubble tip first unless you wanna spend like 60 for a rose bubble tip

thanks for the info! what would you suggest for a good beginner tank that has alot of personality and color fish wise?

Firefish or jawfish are a hoot. Plus they dont need a lot of space, which is at a premium in your tank, especially with a nem

I don't know if they've ever been reared in captivity. I know pearly jawfish have, but I'm pretty sure it's an advanced undertaking

Nope. My angler has a 90g all to himself for that reason.

I figured I just like how much personality the angler has. Why can't they all just get along lol.

Definately let ur tank mature, hold back from stocking too quickly.. But the easiest, hardiest, and attractive anem ha to be the maxi mini carpets.. Best anem's I've ever had.. As in most reef safe.. Unlike a haddoni I had that wiped out like 8 of my inhabitants.
