Beginner Anemones..?

I am new to salt and not that sure about anemones, but I know some are great with clownfish. I am going to get a pair of clowns and wanted some coral, anemones that would be great with my clowns, but also wouldnt eat other coral and wont touch any of my fish !
I have a 30gallon tank and probaly 30-40lbs of live rock when I am done. I plan on keeping 2 clowns, 1 dwarf angel, 2 gobies, firefish, or blenny, not sure which yet, then a cleaner shrimp maybe and a starfish.
Are there any pieces I am get that the clowns will like, or should I switch my fish stocking around, or stick to some other corals?
Thanks

try bta's they seemed to de pretty hardy and my clowns love it.they tend to find a favorite spot and tend to stay their

They considered to be one the easiest to raise. I suggest reading on them as much as possible, there is a lot of information here.

yea i will read up on them i guess, can you tell me if polyps, brain, galexia, clams and featherdusters. are hard to raise ? I know that i love those and I will read about them, but whats your opinions?

Just talked about this on my podcast today (see www in my profile) actually. I'd recommend a BTA. They are pretty easy to keep as long as your tank is well established, you have decent lighting and you feed it regularly.

Make sure your tank is up and running for at least 6 months though.

IMO the key to keeping the things you want is really just taking the time to hone your husbandry skills. Also, IMO you need to quarantine absolutely EVERYTHING once you start stocking your tank. There's nothing more disheartening than introducing new livestock and bringing in a pest or parasite that wipes out the rest of your tank.

Edit: Doing the proper research ahead of time is also a huge part of it.

That seems a little overstocked in my opinion. Maybe cut the list down to 4-5 fish.

just remember to go slow, and take your time. let you tank make the adjustments it needs when you change something.

In a tank that size, i would get a BTA, 2 clowns, and maybe a small goby.

Also, if you use dead base rock instead of live rock, or fully cooked rock, or fully cured rock from an established reef, you can add an anemone rather soon .... no need for six months...

I wouldn't agree. I have no idea about the rock issue but I'm really glad I waited 6mths for my first nem. You've been at it 8yrs and I'm sure you'd have no probs, but us newbies need that time to understand our tank and make mistakes. Wait it out bsmith00, you'll be glad you did and there's plenty of fun to be had in the meantime. :D

I agree. If you are a newbie, you NEED to learn how to mainatin a tank, there is no way around it. But this process takes different amounts of time depending on the person. Being a mature reefer is more important than having a "mature" tank.

I have always wondered what happens at six months to make the coast clear for adding an anemone .... and why anemones, probably the most primitive of all creatures are held in higher regards than damsel fish?

Interesting point. although I feel like they are held to higher regards only because of their cost. You can buy a damsel for $3. A small anemone would be 10X that at least. I'd be pretty upset if I paid that much for one and had it die the next day. To be honest with you, not so much with the $3 fish. :P hahahha

I added my BTA at the 2 month point of my newly setup 34g. It's doing fine. :P

IMO, your 40 gallon tank's going to be overstocked. Are you going to use a sump too? what kind of skimmer you getting? amenones require very good water quality & IMO having that many fish w/ no sump can create problems down the road...
