Just started a reef tank late in February of this year. Slowly been acquiring a few corals and been "playing" with my DSLR camera. I only have the kit lens and a 55-300mm zoom lens but still having some fun learning how to take pictures of my tank. Here is one of the latest editions to my tank and an unedited picture of a pink stylophora frag.

Anything you are seeing that you may be willing to share on how to get a better picture would be great. The color isn't too bad, but it has a glossy plastic look that I don't know how to get rid of. Thanks.

Sorry for the double attachment. Still getting used to Tapatalk and how it does photo attachments. Just got home where I can check iPhoto for the camera settings for the shot I posted. I took it with a Nikon D3100 using the 18-55mm kit lens. f/5.6 shutter 1/13, ISO 1600 and just used auto white balance.

Nice shot!

The WB does look a bit off... Try using a custom WB or temp specific WB to get you closer. In PP you may be able to dial it in further depending on what software you have.

Thanks for the feedback. Still learning a whole lot about how everything ties together in photography. I will adjust white balance and work with the file in iPhoto and/or Photoshop to see what I can do.
